Linda Wenzel – in the Palos Verdes Library District’s Annual Community Art Show!
Housecatures’ draw interest from Realtors, and homeowners worldwide
Linda Wenzel creates “housecatures,” paintings of houses that are designed to artistically capture their unique personalities. Sometimes she paints onsite. Other times she paints from photos.
“I enjoy both. However, at the house, you can fill in details that aren’t easy to see from photos,” the Redondo Beach resident said.
Wenzel began doing housecatures in the early 1970s. Many of her clients were Realtors, who gave them as gifts to their clients. She also accepted commissions from residents who responded to her ads in Easy Reader.
Following a 1979 article about her art in the Los Angeles Times real estate section, she received orders from all over the world. Her ability to paint both from photographs and onsite led to commissions from celebrities including actors Liza Minnelli, Richard Mulligan, and Stuart Hamblen.
Wenzel subsequently went to work in the telecommunications industry. This summer, after 25 years, she has resumed painting housecatures.
“I get all types of clients and all sorts of houses. I’ve done everything from small beach cottages to large Palos Verdes Estates. Everyone’s house is important to them, so it’s important to treat the houses and work with respect,” she said. To view her work visit HouseCatures.com.
